| Brian Duran is an independent
contractor and freelance artist with a fine
arts background. Duran graduated in 1991 from
the Ohio State University with a Bachelor degree
in drawing, painting, and printmaking. After
graduating Duran relocated to San Francisco
where he explored a wide range of mediums including
plaster, wood, plastic, fiberglass, resin,
latex and silicon rubber, murals, Polaroid
photography manipulation and papier-mâché.
Brian
was one of the founders of the San Francisco
performance space Starcleaners, where he designed
stage, set, and performance props and co-produced
weekly events. He maintained an art studio
at the performance space for several years
and had numerous gallery showings in the Bay
Area while also managing Clobba, Inc., a high-volume
retail clothing store.
Duran further developed
his visual merchandising abilities in Los Angeles
at the Modern One vintage furniture showroom.
His construction and painting expertise were
utilized at Jet Sets, Inc. in constructing
sets for commercials, sitcoms, and music videos.
Since
returning to Ohio in 2000, Duran continues
to work successfully at his home studio. His
most recent body of work represents a hybrid
of sculpture and painting via papier-mâché,
the medium to which he is most drawn for its
versatility and ecological friendliness. He
regularly devotes time, as well as one sculpture
each year, to raise money for Partners in Conservation
and the Columbus Zoological Gardens. Duran
has also designed and executed murals for Dick’s
Sporting Goods, Quaker Steak & Lube, and
Proctor & Gamble.
Duran’s
work with ZenGenius includes designing and
painting props for the Short North Holiday
Hop Pet Pageant, the Limited Corporate Holiday
Event, and construction of a 25-foot diameter
soccer ball for Columbus Crew stadium. Brian
currently resides in the Victorian Village
district of Columbus. He plays keyboards (and
a variety of horns, bells, and whistles) in
the band Silent
Butler.
